Ultrasound Therapy
Advanced Ultrasound Therapy for Pain Relief, Recovery & Better Mobility
Take the First Step Towards Better Movement
Our experienced physiotherapists are here to help you improve mobility, regain strength, and move with greater comfort and confidence.
A non-invasive physiotherapy treatment that uses therapeutic ultrasound to support pain management, tissue healing, and improved mobility.
What Is It?
Ultrasound Therapy is a physiotherapy treatment that uses high-frequency sound waves to deliver therapeutic energy to selected areas of the body. Unlike diagnostic ultrasound, therapeutic ultrasound is used as part of a rehabilitation programme for suitable musculoskeletal and soft tissue conditions.
During the treatment, a physiotherapist applies a special gel to the skin and gently moves an ultrasound treatment head over the affected area. The sound waves are delivered into the targeted tissues according to the treatment requirements and individual condition.
Ultrasound Therapy may be used as part of a comprehensive physiotherapy programme to support pain management, improve tissue flexibility, and assist the body’s natural recovery process. Depending on your condition, it may be combined with stretching, strengthening exercises, mobility training, manual therapy, and other rehabilitation techniques.
At Pure Physio, every treatment begins with an assessment to understand your symptoms, pain level, movement limitations, and recovery goals before determining whether Ultrasound Therapy is suitable for your condition.
Conditions We Treat
Ultrasound Therapy may be used as part of a physiotherapy programme for various musculoskeletal and soft tissue conditions, depending on an individual assessment.
Muscle Strains: Muscle strains may cause pain, tightness, soreness, and difficulty moving. Ultrasound Therapy may be included as part of a rehabilitation programme along with appropriate exercises and stretching.
Ligament Injuries: Ligament injuries can affect joint stability and movement. Depending on the injury and stage of recovery, physiotherapy may include suitable treatment techniques to support rehabilitation.
Tendon-Related Pain: Certain tendon-related conditions may cause pain and discomfort during movement. Ultrasound Therapy may be considered as part of an individualised physiotherapy plan where appropriate.
Shoulder Pain: Shoulder pain may make lifting, reaching, dressing, and other daily activities difficult. Treatment may combine Ultrasound Therapy with mobility exercises, strengthening, and movement rehabilitation.
Knee Pain: Knee discomfort can affect walking, climbing stairs, standing, and daily activities. A physiotherapist may include Ultrasound Therapy as part of a broader treatment plan based on the cause of symptoms.
Back Pain: Back pain may result from muscle strain, poor posture, repetitive movements, or physical overuse. Physiotherapy may combine symptom management with mobility exercises, strengthening, and posture correction.
Sports Injuries: Sports-related injuries can affect muscles, tendons, ligaments, and soft tissues. Depending on the type and stage of injury, Ultrasound Therapy may be included in a personalised rehabilitation programme.
Soft Tissue Injuries: Certain soft tissue injuries may cause pain, stiffness, and restricted movement. Physiotherapy treatment is planned according to the affected area, symptoms, and individual recovery needs.
Joint Stiffness: Reduced flexibility and stiffness around a joint can make movement uncomfortable. Ultrasound Therapy may be combined with stretching and mobility exercises where clinically appropriate.
Symptoms
Ultrasound Therapy may be considered as part of a physiotherapy treatment plan for individuals experiencing pain, stiffness, soft tissue discomfort, and movement-related difficulties.
Muscle Pain: Pain in the muscles may develop due to physical strain, repetitive activity, sports, exercise, or injury and may affect normal movement.
Soft Tissue Discomfort: Discomfort around muscles, tendons, ligaments, and other soft tissues may make everyday activities and physical movement more challenging.
Muscle Tightness: Tight or tense muscles can limit flexibility and movement. This may develop due to overuse, poor posture, prolonged inactivity, or physical strain.
Joint Stiffness: Stiffness around a joint may make it difficult to bend, stretch, walk, climb stairs, reach, or perform other routine movements.
Reduced Range of Motion: Injury, pain, stiffness, and soft tissue tightness can reduce the normal movement of a joint or body part.
Movement-Related Pain: Some individuals experience discomfort while walking, bending, lifting, reaching, exercising, or performing other physical activities.
Sports-Related Soreness: Physically active individuals may experience muscle soreness, tightness, or discomfort after training, repetitive movements, or certain injuries.
Difficulty Performing Daily Activities: Pain and reduced mobility can affect routine tasks such as working, walking, climbing stairs, lifting objects, or exercising.
Our Process
Initial Assessment: The physiotherapist begins by understanding your symptoms, medical history, pain level, movement limitations, and overall physical condition. This helps determine whether Ultrasound Therapy is suitable for your treatment plan.
Identifying the Treatment Area: The affected area is carefully assessed to understand where you are experiencing pain, stiffness, muscle tightness, or soft tissue discomfort.
Applying Ultrasound Gel: A special gel is applied to the treatment area. The gel helps the ultrasound treatment head move smoothly over the skin and supports the delivery of therapeutic sound waves.
Ultrasound Application: The physiotherapist gently moves the ultrasound treatment head over the selected area. The treatment settings are adjusted according to your individual condition and treatment requirements.
Controlled Therapy Session: The treatment is delivered for the recommended duration while your comfort and response are monitored. Most patients do not experience pain during the application.
Combined Physiotherapy Treatment: Depending on your condition, Ultrasound Therapy may be combined with stretching, strengthening exercises, mobility training, manual therapy, posture correction, or other rehabilitation techniques.
Progress Monitoring: Your physiotherapist reviews your response to treatment and monitors changes in pain, mobility, strength, and physical function over time.
Home Exercise Guidance: When appropriate, personalised exercises and movement guidance may be provided to support your recovery between physiotherapy sessions.
Benefits
Supports Pain Management: Ultrasound Therapy may be used as part of a physiotherapy programme to help manage certain types of musculoskeletal and soft tissue discomfort.
May Support Soft Tissue Recovery: Therapeutic ultrasound may be included in rehabilitation programmes for suitable soft tissue conditions to support the body’s natural healing and recovery process.
Helps Improve Movement Comfort: Managing pain and stiffness may help patients move more comfortably and participate in their prescribed rehabilitation programme.
May Help Reduce Stiffness: Soft tissue tightness and stiffness can restrict normal movement. Ultrasound Therapy may be combined with mobility and stretching exercises to support improved flexibility.
Non-Invasive Treatment: Ultrasound Therapy is applied externally to the affected area and does not involve injections or surgical procedures.
Comfortable Treatment Experience: The treatment is generally designed to be comfortable and is delivered according to the patient’s condition and individual requirements.
Complements Physiotherapy Rehabilitation: Ultrasound Therapy can be combined with stretching, strengthening, mobility exercises, manual therapy, and other suitable physiotherapy techniques.
Supports Exercise-Based Recovery: By addressing suitable symptoms and movement limitations, treatment may help patients participate more comfortably in exercises designed to improve strength and function.
Personalised Treatment Approach: The treatment settings and rehabilitation programme are selected and adjusted according to your symptoms, condition, response, and recovery goals.
Focus on Functional Recovery: When used as part of a comprehensive physiotherapy programme, Ultrasound Therapy can support rehabilitation aimed at improving mobility, movement, and everyday physical function.
